Human-Shark Relations
Whilst working with El Porto Shark and National Geographic I looked into a new media of communicating my knowledge of marine biology to the public in order to help the bad reputation humans have placed upon sharks. Again this opportunity allowed me to see that there are many opportunities in life to take my knowledge of science and data analysis, and convey findings stemming from that data to the public in a way everyone can understand. I found that when we communicated our data in a user-friendly way to the public, we were able to change people's perceptions of sharks away from a negative one. I found it very rewarding to apply data I had collected through an internship to help one of my favourite things on the planet fight the terrible odds of survival they face.
